Hacksaw

He was born on January 14, 1954, in Glens Falls, NY. The youngest of four children,
three older sisters MaryAnn, Angel and Sheila.
Dad was a police officer for 43 years, twenty years as chief of police,
mother passed away in 1979.


He went to school at St. Mary's Academy and Glens Falls High School.
In school he received 10 varsity letters, 4 in football, 3 in track, 2 in wrestling,
and 1 in basketball.
In football he received many awards and honors and was also recruited
by many universities.
Making seven recruiting trips to Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa State, Kentucky, Syracuse,
University of Rhode Island, and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX .
In track, set the record for Glens Falls High Shot-put in 1973 of 56 feet 8 inches,
that still stands today.
In wrestling won the New York State High School wrestling championship,
in the unlimited weight class division.
The first person from Glens Falls to ever win a state championship.


He chose to go to college at Southern Methodist University.
Playing on the offensive line, he set a record for consecutive games started with 43.
As a senior, was voted captain of the squad.
Was named all-conference, received the Mike Kelsey Award for 100% effort
and the SMU alumni award.


In 1977 he was picked up by the Atlanta Falcons,
while in pre-season training camp had to under-go two knee surgery's
to rebuild his right knee.
In 1978 he was released from the Falcons,and picked up by the Toronto Argonauts
of the Canada Football League.


PRO WRESTLING


While on a recruiting trip to Southern Methodist University,
he met Fritz Von Eric, who suggested that he might make a good wrestler.
During the off-season with the Falcons in 1978, he called Fritz and went down to the
sportatorium in Dallas and started to learn how to wrestle.
In 1979 had his first match with Gino Hernandize and worked Texas for a short time.
Later in 79 while up in Glens Falls, New York,
the old WWWF was running a show at the civic center.
Arnie Scoland booked him in a match with Moose Morowski.
From there, he went to TV where he first met Vince McMann Sr.
Vince Sr. who sent him to Hawaii to work for Peter Miavia to learn the business.
After six months, he returned back to the WWWF.
After a short stay, he went to Georgia Championship Wrestling,
which was his first real territory.
Working as a masked man in Hawaii, as The Convict, everywhere else as big Jim Duggan.
Leaving Georgia, he went to Birmingham, Alabama, working for Rob Fuller.
From there he went to San Antonio, Texas, to work for Joe Blanchard.
This is where he became Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
This is also where he received his first break and started to work on top with Bruiser
Brody.


His next move was a big one, when he went to work for Mid South Wrestling,
out of Bixby, OK. with Bill Watts.
Hacksaw was with Mid South from 1981 to 1986.
Then he made his move up to the new WWF with Vince Jr.
While at Mid South, he was North American Champion and Mid-South tag team champion with
Terry Taylor.
While he was with WWF, he was the winner of the first Royal Rumble
and the King of Wrestling with a win over Harley Race.


The next move came in 1994 when he went with Hulk Hogan to the WCW in Atlanta,Georgia.
While in the WCW, he beat Steve Austin for the United States Championship.
Hacksaw also became the WCW Television Champion. He was with WCW for 7 years.


While in the WWF, he was the only person to knock-out Andre the Giant.
My most memorable match was as the main event with Andre in Madison Square Garden.

Most recently, while with the WCW, he was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma,
kidney cancer.
He had right right kidney removed in Sept. 1998.
He made the announcement on Monday Nitro.
After a 6 months leave of absence, he came back to wrestling,
thanks to the support of the wrestling fans and with the grace of God.


For the last 11 years hehas lived on the Space Coast of Florida.
He has been with his wife, Debra for 17 years.
They have two beautiful little girls Celia, seven and Rebecca six.
They also have a Golden Retriever, three cats, and a tank of fish.

England, France, Germany, Guam, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Poland, Scotland,
