" I'm the best there is, the best there was and
the best there ever will be" booms a victorious
pink and black clad giant from the wrestling ring
upon pummeling a now cowering opponent into the
mat one last time. This is a scene wrestling fans the
world over have witnessed on countless occasions,
much to the misfortune of adversaries of the man
considered to be the world's greatest technical wrestler:
Bret "The Hitman" Hart.
Born, raised and residing in Calgary, Alberta, Bret Hart
comes from a family that excelled at the sport
of wrestling and has been recognized both nationally
and internationally for their exceptional ability.
Being in and around the ring his whole life, Bret trained
with vigor, honed his innate skill and began to make
a name for himself at an early age.
During his teens, Bret dominated the Canadian amateur circuit
and at 21, with an outstanding array of amateur
titles under his belt and the confidence of a
champion, he laced up his boots and set off to make
his mark internationally in and amongst the ranks of
the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
It was early in his tenure with the WWF that Hart
earned his handles "The Hitman" and "The
Excellence of Execution". Through sheer grit,
dedication and determination, Hart perfected his
moves and vanquished opponents with his
unparalleled technical expertise and signature
finishing move "The Sharpshooter".
In over 200 matches per year, over the course of 14 years,
"The Hitman" body-slammed and punched his way to the
top of the WWF and into the hearts of fans the world
over, earning 5 World Heavyweight Championships,
2 Intercontinental titles and 2 World Tag Team
titles. Everywhere he's been, Bret "The Hitman"
Hart has won over the affection and admiration of
wrestling fans. He was voted most Popular Athlete
in Europe in both 1993 and 1994, Most Popular
Wrestler in Japan in 1994 and Most Popular
Wrestler in the United States in 1993 and 1994 and
Superstar of the Year twice in a row, among other
acclamation. In his home country of Canada, Bret
Hart is considered a national hero and is very likely
Canada's most internationally celebrated athlete.
In fact, in Bret's hometown of Calgary, a hockey team
was named after him - The Calgary Hitmen.
Any which way you look at it, "Bret "The Hitman" Hart
is an international super-star!
Bret is currently
suffering from a serious concussion and stroke.
He remains out of the wrestling ring - for now.
